Sheepskins from High Ridge Meadows Farm

We’re pleased to offer you these gorgeous pelts from the flock at High Ridge Meadows Farm. These sheepskins make lovely rugs, throws or seat covers. They are available in a range of natural colors and sizes.

New. New pelts have arrived!

We use both Bucks County Fur Products and Vermont Natural Sheepskins for our tanning. The sheepskins are processed to be washable, but Bucks County does offer a cleaning service.

Sheepskin Care & Cleaning

Sheepskins are processed to be washable, but for best cleaning results, Bucks County recommends you can send the pelts back to them for cleaning.

Avoid Contact with Metal
Natural tannins can react with ferrous material, so take care not to lay sheepskin on metal objects. The chemical reaction might leave a permanent grey or black stain on the leather or wool of the sheepskin.

Weekly Freshening
Take your sheepskin outside and shake it to remove dust and lint. Drape the pelt over a non-metallic chair or clothesline for a few hours in a shaded area. Do not hang in direct sunlight.

Brush the wool with a wide-tooth comb or pet brush, if desired

Spot Cleaning
Spot clean spills on the wool side of your pelt without wetting the leather side. Use a soft sponge or cloth and, if necessary, a very small amount of mild hand soap or shampoo. Wipe in one direction (scrubbing back and forth can quickly felt the fibers). Rinse the area by wiping with a clean, wet sponge or cloth and allow to air dry thoroughly before combing or brushing.

Washing

We recommend hand washing for the sake of your washing machine as well as the sheepskin.

Wash in cool water (do not exceed 100 F). We recommend the use of Kookaburra or Eucalan Wool Wash. You can find these products online. Do not use Woolite, laundry detergents or fabric softeners.

Hand Washing: Put the sheepskin in a large basin or tub and hold it under the water until the skin is thoroughly saturated with water. Allow to soak for 10 to 20 minutes, then gently squeeze out excess water. Repeat soak in clean water, and gently squeeze out excess water.

Machine Washing: Select gentle or delicate cycle. Add sheepskin to machine AFTER it has filled. Once skin is thoroughly soaked, allow machine to agitate very briefly to distribute wool wash. Excess agitation will cause your wool to mat and felt. Allow sheepskin to soak for 10 to 20 minutes. Use spin cycle to remove excess water. Repeat soak with clean water. Repeat spin cycle.

NEVER tumble dry. Line dry or dry flat in shaded location. Gently stretch to shape while damp. Brush with soft wire brush when dry.

Do not tumble dry. Heat will damage sheepskins, resulting in shrinking and hardening of pelt.

We do not guarantee the skins through washing.
