This is a beautiful 3-ply worsted weight yarn that is just back from the mill. It comes from our Gotland/Icelandic crossed ewes whose fiber demonstrates the best of both breeds. Sturdy, with a bit of a sheen and perfect for so many projects! 3-ply soft gray worsted in beautiful, soft shade of gray. 210 yards/6.8 oz. skein. Lovely for hats, mittens, sweaters & shawls!
Our Icelandic/ Gotland yarns are a fantastic mix of the best of both breeds. Icelandic wool is lofty and quite weather resistant. Gotland wool is silky with a wonderful luster. The yarn from this cross is so versatile and lovely to work with. Great for warm winter sweaters and knit jackets, hats, scarves, mittens, blankets and throws. Both of these sheep breeds’ wool is great for felting , as well. I love knitting mittens in a larger size and then felting them to make a strong and nearly waterproof pair of ” Fishermen’s mittens”. This yarn is a 3-ply bulky weight. 210 yds in a lovely shade of gray – 8.6oz of beautiful wool!
Kissel is a Gotland/Icelandic ewe whose fleece represents the two breeds well. This yarn has the loftiness of a true Icelandic lope, but spun a bit tighter. It would be wonderful for hats and mittens or a warm, weather-resistant sweater. Not next to skin soft, but rugged and warm!
This 3-ply yarn is from two of our most beautiful lambs born last year, Yrsa and Wee Dram. The color is a dark, rich, charcoal gray. This is an Aran weight yarn that works up quickly and is super warm. We shear our sheep in the spring, and in the fall as they come off pasture. In the fall, the wool from the lambs is usually their first shearing and very soft. These two lambs are Icelandic/ Gotland crosses and have fabulous long, curly coats. Hats , mittens, scarves, sweaters…would all be lovely using this yarn.
